The name of the large format newspaper-style Florentine publication means ‘gesture.’ The editorial staff presents contributors with a theme. The theme might be the nature of love or mother nature, civic duty or thoughts on an upcoming election. Often the writing takes a political stance. No matter the theme, my monthly column, now more than 35 issues deep, must include two cats named Arnie and Soot who live under the Ponte Alle Grazie in the center of the city. The column appears in English in the print version but online you’ll find the Italian translation. The center spread is by the artist Guilio Picchi. My partner James O’Mara contributes photos to every issue.
